Collaboration and Trust- why are they important for business?

At the Chairman’s Network, we are a “collaborative business network”- but what does this mean?
We are bringing together Leaders in the UK and Internationally to connect, engage and do business together in a professional but informal way.
As far as I can see, driving your business is about collaborating with new pertinent individuals and businesses to find and execute a win-win approach for all parties. In the dictionary, as above, it’s about parties that “may not have any previous relationship”
At the Chairman’s Network we are creating the opportunity for you to meet and engage with peer contacts that you do not currently know and that can turbo-charge your business meetings and help you achieve your goals faster by fostering relevant new relationships.
This is proving very powerful for our members and new business deals are being done.
You can clearly connect on Linked In or our own Chairman’s Network platform- but it’s not until you engage with people and invest some time in getting to know them, that you ascertain enough about them and their businesses to decide whether you should progress that relationship and follow up with a call or a meeting. It’s about fostering that trust and the win-win.
What is surprising, particularly at Coffee Meetings and Events is how so many relevant connections are uncovered in 1.5 hours of conversation amongst 8-10 senior executives. There is invariably someone that you feel you would like to talk with further. It could be M&A; it could be advice or consultancy; it could be a Board Opportunity; it could be a funding or investment opportunity; it could be Expert advice or input. The list is endless.
The Coffee Meetings are engaging, stimulating and fun as you explore new ideas and opportunities with like- minded others who are all thinking collaboratively.
Clearly not everything turns to business- but a lot does!
In fact, when you think about it, we are all buying or selling something, although at The Chairman’s Network we do not encourage overt selling.
Build the relationship to create trust and then the opportunities to do business start to present themselves.
Trust is the most powerful tool we have.
I recommend others because I know and trust them to do a good job and not let me down. I’m sure that you are doing the same!
It’s the relationship building and collaboration that creates the trust that leads to opportunities. If you don’t invest that time, nothing will happen- much like all those extraneous contacts you have on Linked In. They probably won’t come to anything.
Sometimes, however, you have to give before you receive? Some free advice to a thorny problem? Some ad hoc help on a deal? An expert view? I don’t think you can charge for everything.
But after engaging and helping somebody- you are first on their minds when it comes to reciprocating.
