Metrics that matter - Do we need an evolved framework for measuring organisational success? with Member Karen Thomas-Bland

As board members we see a set of metrics on which we measure an organisations success: balanced scorecards, dashboards, strategic plan reports, routine financial and activity reports.  These typically have varying degrees of sophistication relative to accountability, management, and governance.

Organisations are also setting and needing to manage a broader set of metrics aligned to, as examples, planet, purpose, prosperity and people.

So do the metrics that are routinely tracked allow us to see the wood for the trees?  It is possible that an organisation can have a good balanced scorecard, dashboard, and/or strategic plan report, and good near-term financial reports, and yet be losing ground?  What measures are important moving forward that may not be tracked today?
